Anglo-Saxon runes were used probably from the 5th century AD until about the 10th century.
For example, a prisoner could magically release himself by carving certain runes. There are other characters, such as a crossed thorn see laterwhich you could use if you install a special font on your computer.
The Anglo-Saxons did all four. You can amalgamate two separate letters into one new letter.
Most have been found in eastern and southern England. Futhorc inscriptions hold diverse styles and contents. This font is called Junicode and can be downloaded from the Junicode website.
